About the Awards

Established in 2012 by disability advocates; Kim Stokes, Paul Wilson and David Wallis, The Business disABILITY Awards of Australia recognises businesses and individuals across Toowoomba and Darling Downs who support, educate and employ people living with a disability.

Now in its 11th year, the Business disABILITY Awards are well established and recognise those businesses and individuals who support, educate, advocate and employ people with a disability and celebrate inclusion.

Award Categories

Social Inclusion Award

Recognising excellence in creating, promoting or supporting an inclusive workplace culture that supports all abilities. This award is open to stand alone businesses and individuals supporting people with disability.

Outstanding Employer Award

Recognising an employer who has provided opportunities for a person with a disability to pursue paid work in a supportive workplace. This award is open to Businesses currently employing at least one person with disability. If your business is more than 12 months old, you must outline and demonstrate new initiatives introduced in the past year and outcomes.

Outstanding Employee Award

Recognising an employee who has demonstrated a notable attitude or effort in a workplace. This award is open to current paid employees living with disability.

Outstanding Volunteer Award

Recognising a volunteer who has demonstrated a notable attitude or effort in a workspace. This award is open to individuals living with disability and individuals volunteering to support people living with disability.

Innovation & Access Award

Recognising outstanding achievement and/or creativity in pursuing new, different or unique ways to increase awareness or adoption of inclusive practices in a work, training or volunteer space. This award is open to Individuals, Groups, Businesses comprising of people living with disability or supporting people living with disability.

Education & Training Award

Recognising excellence in the inclusion of people with a disability in education and/or training. This award is open to Individuals, Business or Community Groups within the Toowoomba and Darling Downs region.

Indigenous Champion Award

Recognising individuals, Business or a Community Group that has paved the way for First Nations peoples in the Employment Space. This award is open to Indigenous individuals living with a disability and individuals, groups or businesses supporting indigenous peoples living with disability. 

Business Engagement Award

Recognising outstanding achievement and/or effort in collaborating and engaging with the business community to create employment opportunities for people with a disability. This award is open to Individuals living with disability and individuals, groups or businesses supporting people living with disability.

Elissa Flanagan ‘Aim High’ Scholarship

Awarded to an individual with a disability to be used towards the cost of professional development, training and/or education in their chosen field or pursuit.

Judy Antonio Memorial Award

Judy Antonio was the Patron of the Business DisABILITY Awards before she sadly passed away in 2016.  This Award will recognise a business, group or individual that epitomises the values of social inclusion as so strongly espoused and lived by Mrs Antonio. The recipient will be chosen by the Awards Committee and endorsed by Paul Antonio.
